("Call for Papers: FSPM 2007" at 2006/11/03 02:39) ------------------------------------ 1st Call for Papers 5th International Workshop on Functional-Structural Plant Models FSPM 07 Napier, New Zealand, 4-9 November, 2007 Functional-Structural Plant Models couple one or more elements of plant function with spatially-explicit models of plant architecture. The resulting models are intended to improve our understanding of fundamental plant biology, and/or provide decision support for agriculture, horticulture, and forestry. The 2007 workshop will follow previous meetings in the FSPM series, which were held in Helsinki, Finland (1996), Clermont-Ferrand, France (1998), Montreal, Canada (2001), and Montpellier, France (2004). Paper submissions are invited in all aspects of Functional-Structural Plant Modeling, including, but not limited, to: - Functional-structural models of plants and plant communities: - Regulation of plant development and structure; - Resource acquisition, transport, allocation, and use; - Plant biomechanics; - Hormonal control and signaling; - Plant interaction with the environment; - Models of plant environments (e.g., light, water, temperature, insects, pathogens); - Molecular-level computational biology of plants (e.g., models of auxin transport, molecular genetics of plant development), - Models of plant tissues and organs; - Biological concepts underpinning FSPM (e.g., autonomy and competition between plant modules); - Mathematics and algorithms for FSPM (e.g., L-systems, Markov chains, Petri nets, multiresolution modeling); - Modeling software; - Applications of FSPM to horticulture, agriculture, and forestry; - Applications of FSPM to fundamental biology; - Experimental methods for FSPM (e.g., measurements of plant architecture, microscopic imagery); - Validation and verification of FSPM; - Visualization of FSPM. Paper submission Extended abstracts of oral presentations (3 pages) and abstracts of posters (1 page) are solicited. All abstracts will be reviewed by the Program Committee, following the same submission and notification deadlines. All accepted abstracts will be included in the workshop proceedings. Important dates: - Abstract submission: March 19, 2007 - Notification of acceptance: May 31, 2007 - Camera ready abstracts due: June 29, 2007 Workshop venue The workshop will be held in the Napier War Memorial Conference Centre http://www.hawkesbaynz.com/pages/warmemorial/ Workshop organizers: - Program Chair: Przemyslaw Prusinkiewicz, University of Calgary, Canada, pwp@cpsc.ucalgary.ca - Program Co-chair: Jim Hanan, University of Queensland, Australia, jim@maths.uq.edu.au - Local Organization: Alla Seleznyova, The Horticulture and Food Research Institute of New Zealand Ltd. ASeleznyova@hortresearch.co.nz Special issue of Functional Plant Biology Authors of accepted abstracts are invited to submit a full paper to the special FSPM 07 issue of Functional Plant Biology (Volume 35, Issue 5, 2008). All topics included in the conference program are eligible. The full papers will be reviewed by at least two reviewers, according to the normal standards of Functional Plant Biology. Members of the FSPM Program Committee will participate in the organization of the reviewing process. The journal anticipates publication of up to 24 full FSPM papers according to the following schedule: - Full paper submission deadline: December 10, 2007 - Manuscripts with reviews returned to the authors for revision: January 26, 2008 - Revised manuscripts due: February 22, 2008 - Acceptance decisions made: March 8, 2008 - Proofs sent to authors: March 29, 2008 - Revised proofs due: April 13, 2007 - Publication date (web version posted): May 3, 2008 - Print version available: May 17, 2008 -----------------------------
